In 2020, the Village of Mt. Zion established an exclusive franchise agreement with Advanced Disposal, now merged with Waste Management, to provide comprehensive refuse, recycling, and yard waste removal services. All village residents are required to utilize Waste Management for their garbage collection needs. Each household is provided with a 95-gallon refuse cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart, included in the monthly service fee, with additional carts available for rent at $3.50 per month.
Waste collection services are conducted weekly on Thursdays, with residents required to place their carts within 24 inches of the curb by 6:00 a.m. Yard waste is collected seasonally from April 1 to November 30 and must be bagged or bundled neatly at the curb. For an additional fee, residents can request a yard waste cart from Waste Management. During holiday weeks, collection is moved to Friday, with observed holidays including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
