The refuge was created to protect the coastal prairie and the critically endangered Attwater’s Prairie-Chicken. While this remarkable bird is the focus of our conservation efforts, the refuge is also home to a variety of other wildlife species that thrive in this unique prairie ecosystem, offering visitors a chance to experience the diversity and beauty of native Texas wildlife.
