Rent Vs. Buy

Renting and buying involve different financial considerations. While rent is a fixed expense, a mortgage includes both principal and interest, with interest payments similar to rent in that they do not build equity. Over time, total mortgage interest can exceed comparable rental costs. Homeownership offers the potential to build equity, but also brings additional expenses such as taxes, insurance, and maintenance. Financial readiness—including being free of credit card debt and having a 10–20% down payment saved—is essential before buying. The decision to rent or buy ultimately depends on individual financial stability and long-term goals.
